In the current market environment investors are frequently faced with two erroneous choices. The first, based on the theory of Efficient Markets, instructs them to follow Buy and Hold strategy. It states, in essence, that since markets cannot be forecasted, the time to buy or sell stock is immaterial. Investors should just buy a market index fund and hold it through thick and thin.
However, if too many investors pursue this course of action, the majority of Wall Street operators would find themselves out of a job. Therefore, brokers and the financial media have been pushing the opposite idea: that short-tem trading is the best way to achieve market profits and that you should jump on the next high-flying stock or commodity.
